Haemorrhoids

It is also called piles, which are swollen veins in your anus and lower rectum, similar to varicose veins. Haemorrhoids can be external or internal.

 

SYMPTOMS

  • Itching or irritation in your anal region
  • Pain or discomfort
  • Swelling around your anus
  • Bleeding
  • Painless bleeding during bowel movements.
  • Prolapsed or protruding haemorrhoid, resulting in pain and irritation.
  • Severe pain
  • Inflammation

 

CAUSES

  • Straining during bowel movements
  • Sitting for long periods of time on the toilet
  • Having chronic diarrhoea or constipation
  • Obesity
  • Pregnancy
  • Having anal intercourse
  • Eating a low-fibre diet
  • Regular heavy lifting

 

MANAGEMENT

  • High-fibre foods
  • Drink plenty of fluids.
  • Don't strain while passing stool
  • Go as soon as you feel the urge
  • Exercise. 
  • Avoid long periods of sitting.
